I'm Emily, a fourth-year Media Studies and Computer Science student at the University of British Columbia. Ever since I designed my first blog when I was twelve years old, I've been passionate about creating media content both online and offline. From audio storytelling to promotional material to digital art, I've had the opportunity to explore different mediums through interdisciplinary studies and a diverse variety of work experience. I created this site to showcase some of my work, thank you so much for visiting.
As an Arts Co-op student, I worked with the City of Surrey's Salmon Habitat Restoration Program to engage community members and promote the protection of sensitive riparian habitat. In 2018, I had the opportunity to live in Weifang, China for 6 months, where I taught English with the Canadian Institute of Business & Technology. I love the Arts Co-op Program so much that I joined the team as a marketing and communications assistant during my third year of studies to support other students in gaining valuable work integrated learning experience. In my last co-op term with Global Affairs Canada, I provided digital advocacy support to Canadian Embassies and High Commissions promoting Canada's foreign policy abroad. Currently, I am working in the Office of the President as a communications assistant and helping teach an introductory computer science course here at UBC.
So far, I've impacted hundreds of students and had thousands of people interact with my online content. In the future, I hope to employ the skills I gain through my studies and work experiences towards a career in media education. I aspire to continuously learn, to seek new knowledge, and to have a positive impact on the way that we use technology to communicate with one another.
