Morality and Beauty: Game of Thrones Characters Ranked
INFO 419: Information Visualization
For our final project in this class, we were asked to research a topic of interest and find a dataset to create a related information visualization. My colleagues and I chose to explore the popular television series Game of Thrones, based on a survey and article written by the New York Times where readers were asked to rate fifty of the series' most recognizable characters along two varying scales: good to evil and ugly to beautiful. We sourced supplementary information from the Game of Thrones wiki, such as whether a character was dead or alive in the current season, as well as a separate dataset from Github containing predictions, family trees, and the popularity of houses based on wiki page visits. We used a variety of tools for our project, including OpenRefine to clean our datasets, Tableau to create the interactive dashboard for our visualization, Photoshop to refine character images and house sigils, and Canva to put together our infographic detailing each house. Below is our completed visualization, feel free to scroll around and play with the filters but beware of spoilers!
