Reimagined Self Portrait
VISA 241: Introduction to Digital Photography
The main objective of this project was to develop a unique subject position that challenged normative ideas in relation to personhood and identity by coming up with a specific relationship between the subject and the camera. I wanted to create a unconventional, or reimagined, self portrait to explore who I feel as though I am as a person. Through the photographic process, I realized that I'm not completely sure of who I am, as each day I learn new things about the world, about those around me, and about myself. I decided to try to capture this "investigation" of self through an image of myself gazing upon pictures from my life and trying to "connect" themes and ideas with red yarn. I drew inspiration from the investigative boards often seen being used by detectives in crime shows and films, where individual pieces of information come together to create a larger narrative.
